Our History

Year
1964 Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada plans to start a mission church in Mayland Heights. Nine lots are purchased and the education wing is constructed. The first worship service is held on Christmas Eve.
1965 October 31, Reformation Day - The congregation is officially incorportated as Ascension Lutheran Church
1967 Sanctuary is completed and dedicated
1985 Pipe Organ is rebuilt
1999 Dedication of new classrooms and offices
2000 Participation in the Inn From The Cold program begins
2008 Banff and Jasper Commissions are established
2009 Banff and Jasper Commission booklets are published by the American Lutheran Publicity Bureau (ALPB). A copy of each is sent to every congregation in the ELCIC
2010 Established the Lake Louise Commission
2010 Lake Louise Commission booklets are published by ALPB and sent to every congregation in the ELCIC
2011 Ascension Lutheran Church becomes a congregation of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC)
2013 Pastor Everett is called as Associate Pastor
2014 Pastor K Glen Johnson retires
2014 Ascension Lutheran Church begins sharing its facility with three other congregations
2015 50th Anniversary celebration
2016 New website is launched
